Predictability defines me. Most people would think this entry would be about how much I am going to miss the seniors, how much I adore my brother, how open houses are awesome, how my freshman year went, how I am sad about Mr. Weil leaving, how the SO team continues to be amazing and/or how I am excited for summer. Well, we all know how I feel about those things. So to steer clear of a harry potter book-sized entry, we can all pretend that has already been discussed. But what is this entry really about....?
I just killed an ant, and I feel like crap beyond any known reason. I have never been sure why I have such a hard time killing anything (except mosquitos), but I have never been able to handle it well. Even if a spider is in my shower, I will use a piece of paper to pick it up and put it outside or use someone else's bathroom. But no, I just killed one. And why? The only justification was because I am going to grow up someday, and I will need to kill insects. But I do not think I can become callous to killing; I even feel sad looking at a gun... killing will never make sense to me, yet I just did it. Why do human beings need to kill what is not bothering or harming us? The ant was in my space. I killed an ant because it was in my space. Is that a reason why much killing occurs? You are in my space; I will kill you. I want your space; I will kill you to get it. If there was an infinitie amount of space, would there be no war? Or would human beings fight to own infinity?
... just a rant to ponder... |

I just realized I have not posted in this journal since June 17... so... I think it was time for one. And since everyone has been asking I'll write a long cliche one...
First of all, thank you to everyone that has had to deal with me freaking out this year!! I seirously love you guys. It's great walking down the hall and having someone say, "HEY MAYA!" It may not seem like a lot. But it pretty much always makes my day.
And I agree with Hannah. Debate is life, the rest is pretty much prep time. I j'adore it!
And now since eveyone has asked me... errr.. how'd I do first quarter?
Geometry (A-): This class adds a lot of stress to my life. Its really hard but everyone has been saying it will get easier? (hopefully?) Mrs. McGonigle is pretty cool I guess. I had a heart-to-heart with her about Math Friday after school. So that helped a lot. Test Wednesday (eek!) the cycle starts again XP
English (A): I love Mrs. Stolzfus! Her class is awesome. We still haven't gotten our Most Dangerous Game papers back, but since she's pregnant I seriously can't blame her. And just the way she teaches helps a lot! I've caught up on a lot of stuff I should have but haven't learned so far in her class. We start Romeo and Juliet after our Grammar test this year. I'm pumped.
Orchestra (A): Viola section = awesome. I'm pretty much the worst one but I'm learning a lot by watching the others. And our violin quartet is starting up again soon so I'm happy. Mr. Kopf is awesome as usual and does something to cheer up any mood I'm in during that period. And our student teacher Ms. DJ ROCKS! (plus she's a viola)
Lunch- There are a ton of cool people in my lunch hour. (Even Emily! though i don't sit by her). it seems like all the kids from Valpo that I went to pre-school with I am now friends with. It's happy little table with the greatest mix of athletic, smart, debate, and awesome kids (WITH NO DRAMA) that I could've have sat with out of the frosh. Fun ^_^
Biology (A+): Coyle!!! I've heard a lot of stories about him, but this is one of my favorite classes. He is hilarious and a really good teacher! I just love the way he connects concepts with other stories. And his stories keep me laughing the whole class. His class is a little challenging but its worth being in it. Except now its getting a lot harder and the extra credit is going down... (meh...) But I'm really happy I'm in his class. Even if I don't get an A+ later? I'm definitely learning a lot!
Gym (B+): COOK!! AAAAH! 'nuf said.... I have Fickin now for swimming, and am loving it (and am extremely relieved)
World History (A+): Another class I adore. I haven't had Mrs. Arthur yet. But we have a really hard but really awesome student teacher. We switch to Mrs. Arthur again this week. So I guess the class is supposed to get even harder (which is hard for my class to comprehend). But I'm really looking forward to experiencing Mrs. Arthur from the stories I've heard. I'll miss our student teacher though! Oh, and I love the sophomores in this class. They make the chemistry so much more relaxed and fun.
Spanish (A+): This is the best way to end my day. Senora Gadacz is awesome!! She makes all these fun (and not cheesy) activities to help with Spanish. Its hard but it is Spanish. We started "no ingles" and she really enforces it. I thought that would suck, but it really doesnt. Yes half of the stuff everyone says doesnt make sense, but eventually the person you talk to figures it out. And its really helps. Its awesome ^_^ ------------------ so that is pretty much the overall summary of it all. It took me forever to get adjusted to high school!! But I really like it now and am hoping to (keep my grades up/get an A in gym) enjoy the rest of my freshman year as much as possible. Because from what I've heard, its the best.

My cousin is a singer. A while ago, she sang "Only Hope" by Mandy Moore at her school's talent show. Her name is Sylvia.
If you want to watch a video, look up: Only Hope Talent Show Sylvia on Google Video. Do not put Parenthesis around it.
The video is amazing.
Seriously, if you do not watch it, you are missing out.... or atleast just look it up. |

It's summer.. I'll post more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwc5YSAc-7g ^^ I forgot until today how much I love this song. I just had to share it. And someday, I really want that white violin.
Quote of the week:
Olas: I've always wanted a seeing eye dog Elly: I love those little iDogs! Olas: No.. a seeing eye dog.. I saw one at Bob Evans once... I pet it when the owner wasn't looking
Basically it took me a few seconds to understand, but it was hilarious (no offense to any blind people) |

GOOD JOB VALPARAISO HIGH SCHOOL TEAM!! YOU ROCK!!!! Seriously, you guys and girls are amazing... Sonia, your Food Science (?) face was completely priceless!!! And Ajay, I still want your amazing teeth when you smile/laugh/scream loudly in support for your awesome team.
My events: Awesome Aquifers- 3rd (I'm happy.. though I really think we should have gotten first) Road Scholar- 5th (I was surprised.. I was 20 minutes late for the event because Aquifers was late) Ecology- 6th.... I am cursed with sixth place finishes!!! Don't Bug Me- 7th!! After being in it for 2 weeks :-D... someone tell Jon Gold! Science Word- 10.... the other teams must have been really bad
I think we should all be amazed by a sixth grader named Gabe Hinding. She is amazing. She got first place in Balloon Race (which she pretty much does by herself). Go Gabe!!!
And Ben Studebaker placed in all his events!! Go him!! |

Wow.. since I never post I might as well make the "After Super Bowl" post like everyone else.
1) Hester probably made the best possible start of a Super Bowl that could be possible for the Bears. Hester is Love.
2) Urlacher owned. The defense was really good. They all deserve hugs. And yes, I do have an obsession with Urlacher. I am completely proud of that fact. He owns. You all know it. Urlacher and the Defense is Love.
I am still a proud Bears fan.
The Colts did deserve it though. Peyton Manning is the better of the two quarterbacks and after the death of Tony Dungee's son.... it was nice for them to win. Coach Dungee is also the first African American coach to make it to (+ Lovieeeee) and win the Super Bowl. Go him!
But a sadness still sleeps in my head...
NEXT YEAR! (Bears and Cubbies) |

mood: in a school bus??
|
Soooo update of my life:
Spell Bowl state was on Saturday: We got 4th (lost 3rd from a tiebreaker to Munster). I've gotten three perfects at state in MS and we won first with a perfect score last year so all is well. And we have some freaking amazing sixth graders so I gotta see how they do next year. My highlight of that adventure was definitely getting PULLED OVER IN A SCHOOL BUS! What are the chances of that happening? It was pretty funny/freaky. The police officer was in a really bad mood though... it was something about the bus driver failing to yield. Luckily it wasn't the kids that got in trouble.. that would not have been good.
Bears won against the Giants. That was sweet. They really pulled it together second half.
My pondering question is if Sonia ever found pizza.... |

Wow... so today was definitely the last time I will see Gabby (one of my best friends for people that don't know) before she moves (subject verb agreement? ah!) But it was also probably one of the best nights i have ever spent with her She pretty much invited everyone she saw at the play (go lights box!) to come So we had Me, Megan, Gabby, Kathryn, Jon, John, Margo, Olas, Sam, Brad, Tyler, Mrs. Scott (a table away), and Jacque/Jackie all crammed at one Culver's table... all being chav.. yeah thats right chav. It was a blastfully sad day... :-(. |
